Masterclass: Jorge Pardo
Language of jazz and flamenco
Jorge Pardo, one of the leading figures in flamenco jazz, will give a masterclass at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de las Islas Baleares within the framework of the Alternatilla Jazz Fest —and not only to jazz students but also to saxophonists and flutists— where he will transmit his knowledge of the language of jazz and flamenco. Pardo is one of the true alchemists of musical fusion to our country.
Jorge Pardo (Madrid, December 1, 1956), Spanish jazz and flamenco musician, tenor and soprano saxophonist and flutist. He uses a musical language that is a mix between traditional jazz and flamenco; his style with the transverse flute and saxophone is considered a reference for innovation.
A name in capital letters emerges from the fusion of jazz and flamenco: Jorge Pardo, the first flutist to play flamenco with Paco de Lucía and Camarón de la Isla, is an internationally renowned musician, among other awards: in 2013 he received the award for Best European Jazz Musician, becoming the first Spaniard to be recognized with the award from the French Academy of Jazz. In 2015 he received the National Award for Contemporary Music, and in 2019 he won the Grammy Awards for his album Antidote with Chick Corea.
