ODD STEINAR ALBRIGTSEN QUINTET (NORWAY)
The Norwegian guitarist Odd Steinar Albrigtsen (Tromsø, 1985) has a very personal and distinctive style, combining contemporary melodic jazz with diverse influences from North American bebop to Latin-American music.
After studying at the Kongsbakken school, he went to the Conservatory of Music in Piteå, Sweden, where he studied both classical and jazz guitar, and later at Sund Folkehøgskole in Norway. After studying there for 2 years, he was accepted at the Jazz Conservatory in Trondheim, where he took his bachelor degree in jazz.
Recently he took his master’s degree in jazz at the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York, where he lived for a while enjoying and being part of the vibrant New York jazz scene.
He has performed and recorded with different groups, like Afrocadabra, the Albrigtsen, Østvang Trio and the Odd Steinar Albrigtsen Quintet, the band he presents in the festival.
Nowadays he plays mostly with his own quintet besides touring with his other two main projects, Osa Quartet and Clockwork, mainly in Norway and Sweden.
Odd Steinar has also started a record company called Recorda Records, where the debut album of Clockwork was released.
